Armed "victim" turns tables on would-be car-jacker

In Atlanta, Edgar Horn slid into the passenger seat of Hashim Fannin's car and said "you know what this is."

Fannin knew, all right. He knew that Horn was announcing a car-jacking. But Fannin knew something else, something that Horn did not. Fannin knew that he had a licensed concealed weapon on his person, and he promptly shared that information with Horn by pulling the sidearm and forcing Horn to lie face down on the parking lot while Fannin called the police.

Horn of course tried to play it off by claiming that he thought that he was getting into the car of "a friend" abd begged fannin to let him go, but Fannin didn't buy it and held him for the police.

“I told him no, there’s no leaving, leaving was before you hopped into my car ... at this point there is not leaving,” Fannin said.

The car owner kept the suspect, Edgar Horn, 61, at gunpoint face down in the parking lot for several minutes until police arrived.

“You were not trying to rob me,” Fannin said to the man on cellphone video of the incident. “Do you just get into random people's cars ... you thought I was your friend … you thought I was your friend ... so you woke up stupid this morning?”

When police arrived, you can see Fannin wave them over, and put his gun down. The police officer shakes his hand, before putting the suspect in handcuffs.

“Honestly, I look at it like this. That is one less guy I got to worry about bothering my mom when she’s out grocery shopping,” Fannin said.

Somewhere out there, Shannon Watts is crying and dipping into her third carton of Haagen-Dazs. She really hates it when guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens stop crimes and save lives.

Yeah, you read that right. The wanted criminal was found in the oven when police arrived and began searching the residence looking to arrest her.

25 years of mandatory gun ownership = no problems, less crime

Wow, this story has to be galling the anti-gun crowd and the elitist liberals who claim that guns in the home lead to murder and other crimes.

In March 1982, 25 years ago, the small town of Kennesaw – responding to a handgun ban in Morton Grove, Ill. – unanimously passed an ordinance requiring each head of household to own and maintain a gun. Since then, despite dire predictions of "Wild West" showdowns and increased violence and accidents, not a single resident has been involved in a fatal shooting – as a victim, attacker or defender.

The crime rate initially plummeted for several years after the passage of the ordinance, with the 2005 per capita crime rate actually significantly lower than it was in 1981, the year before passage of the law.

Prior to enactment of the law, Kennesaw had a population of just 5,242 but a crime rate significantly higher (4,332 per 100,000) than the national average (3,899 per 100,000). The latest statistics available – for the year 2005 – show the rate at 2,027 per 100,000. Meanwhile, the population has skyrocketed to 28,189.

By comparison, the population of Morton Grove, the first city in Illinois to adopt a gun ban for anyone other than police officers, has actually dropped slightly and stands at 22,202, according to 2005 statistics. More significantly, perhaps, the city's crime rate increased by 15.7 percent immediately after the gun ban, even though the overall crime rate in Cook County rose only 3 percent. Today, by comparison, the township's crime rate stands at 2,268 per 100,000.

This was not what some predicted.

25 years and crime is down in pro-gun Kennesaw and up in anti-gun Morton Grove. And no blood in the streets in the city where everyone is armed. Kind of puts paid to the whole gun control fallacy, doesn't it?

British Professor finds out the hard way that you don't disrespect American police.

On January 4th of this year, one of Britiin's academics decided that he was too important to bother with police officer in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. I could have told him that it wasn't a good idea to try to brush off an American law enforcement officer who is trying to talk to you, or refuse to give that officer your identification. But he didn't ask me. He learned that lesson himself the hard way.

According to this story in the British Press, "Professor Fernandez-Armesto, professor of global environmental history at Queen Mary, University of London, and a member of Oxford University's modern history faculty, was left "traumatised and disorientated" and with a gash on his forehead before he was charged with pedestrian failure to obey a police officer." Better yet, "In scenes of "terrible, terrible violence", as the distinguished academic recalled them yesterday, he had his legs kicked from beneath him and was pinned to the ground by five officers before being handcuffed to another felon and locked up for eight hours."

However, before anyone reads Professor Fernandez-Armesto's rather creative version about what happened that fateful morning, it would do well to read the actual police report written by the arresting officer. The report sheds quite a bit of light on Fernandez-Armesto's behavior and attitude, and after reading that, I can honestly say that I'd probably have locked him up too.

But the best comedy still comes from the Professor's own version.

The professor added: "He said: 'I am going to arrest you.' In the culture I come from this wouldn't mean that the conversation was over.

I guess in "his culture", "You're under arrest" means "let's debate this for a while."

"Naturally I was bridling. I had five burly policemen pinioning me to the ground, pressing my neck with really very severe pain. I'm a mass of contusions and grazes. I still find it incredible that an aging, mild-mannered professor of impeccable antecedent, should be the subject of such abominable treatment."

Do people in Britain actually talk like that? No wonder that this humble colony of ours beat them so easily. Our Revolutionary troops actually had testosterone.

The next day in court the charges were dropped - to the relief of the professor who feared a criminal record and the loss of his green card. (He also works at Tufts University, Massachusetts.)

Massachussetts. That figures. This guy fits right in with John Kerry, Barney Frank and those annoying Kennedys. But shame on the court for dropping the charge. He should have been hammered with Resisting at the very least, and if he is so scornful of our country and our ways, why is he worried that he might have to leave? His deportation should be a national ballot question in the 2008 elections.

However I really loved it when the Professor made this statement:

"It was a fantastic experience going into that detention centre and spending time with those miserable wretches of the earth."

Spoken like a true liberal. Champions of the poor, but only from a distance. When condemning conservatives, the poor are always spoken of as if they are nobility. But if one actually has to associate with them, they're detestable. Proving once again that a Liberal is someone who claims to advocate for the people that he would not allow into his neighborhood or family.

My advice to the Professor: If you think you got it bad in Atlanta, try that in New Orleans with NOPD.

Or wait until I get back to work. I'll lock your ass up too if you try to walk away from me and refuse to produce ID. This is America (Est. 1776) and we have our own laws here which you, as a visitor, need to abide by of face the consequences.

Illegals are at it again

Now the illegals are tangling with Sheriff Joe Arpaio, the man who keeps order in Maricopa County, AZ by putting prisoners in tents in the desert, making them wear pink underwear, and bringing back chain gangs for women. Arpaio has also been arresting illegal aliens and cherging them with conspiracy for smuggling themselves into our country. And in reasponse, illegals marched in front of his office and warned him that unless he respected the hispanic community, they would oust him at the polls.

Amazing. People who aren't evewn supposed to be in our country threaten our elected officials and insist that they--the illegals--will vote our public servants out of office unless we give them their way.

Georgia's legislature continues to pass legislation requiring that anyone who shows up to cast a vote and have a say in our governing ourselves must show identification to prove that he or she is in the country legally and actually entitled to vote. But it's been thwarted by a leftist judge and critics who make the phony argument that there are people out there who want to vote but cannot afford to get an ID card or make a trip to a government office to get one.

Let's be real. The only people in Georgia or anywhere else in this country who cannot produce photo identification of some sort are illegals and those people who only exist on election day to cast ballots in the names of people long dead or moved away.

Not suprisingly, all of the challenges against the Voter ID law are Democrat or groups that support the Democrats entirely. Jimmy Carter is right in there condemning this law as "racist" but then he thinks that Hugo Chavez, Venezuelan dictator, is a nice guy. It's sad to see our former President losing his mind to senility but even sadder to see his handlers use him as a prop on issues like this.
