This is offered up as "big news" this morning, but I just can't bring myself to care. So a bunch of Hollywood liberal elitists gave a bunch of other Hollywood liberal elitists some awards. What does it really matter?
What really does matter is that the Dixie Twits can't fill concert seats in traditional country music venues any more. Last summer they had to cancel scheduled shows in St. Louis, Oklahoma City, Indianapolis, Memphis and Houston. The reason: Not enough fans left to break even.
Their present appeal is pretty much limited to America haters and Bush bashers who still don't buy tickets to their concerts. What are they going to do when President Bush is gone in 2009 and they've got no one left to hate? Country music's probably not going to take them back. So let them stand on a few more stages and let Maines make her trademark nasty comments about the majority in the music industry that disapproves of them, including almost everyone who helped them get where they are today. It's a poor substitute for a loyal fan base and genuine talent and it's only a matter of time before they're dismissed and forgotten.
