Enough with the Coulter-bashing already

OK< we've heard about Ann Coulter's "John Edwards is a fag" joke for half a week now. While it was juvenile and crass, it was meant as a joke. And the one thing that the critics (mostly hard-core leftists with a political agenda) are ignoring is the large number of comments made by Liberal over the years, most of which were not intended to be humorous.

A good number of them are thoughtfully documented here by Patterico, but just to give a sampling:

* National Public Radio legal affairs correspondent Nina Totenberg:

* Syndicated columnist Alexander Cockburn:

There is a sound case to be made for dropping a tactical nuclear weapon on the Cuban section of Miami. The move would be applauded heartily by most Americans. Alas, Operation Good Riddance would require the sort of mature political courage sadly lacking in Washington, D.C., these days.


* Democrat Senator Robert Byrd:

There are white niggers. I’ve seen a lot of white niggers in my time. I’m going to use that word.

* During his presidential campaign, Jesse Jackson was linked with (and refused to denounce) Louis Farrakhan, who has at times been linked with the Congressional Black Caucus, which also supported his Million Man March. Farrakhan is a man of the left who has been a harsh critic of President Bush.

* Democrat Representative Pete Stark, speaking to a Republican:

* Markos Moulitsas Zuniga crowed over the death of American contractors in Iraq:

* Huffington Post blogger Tony Hendra wished for Dick Cheney to die:

There's of course a lot more of this sort of thing from the Left, but they typically get a pass while someone like Coulter gets pilloried under the guise of political correctness but in reality simply for her political affiliation. I think we allknow that if Ann had been a Liberal saying what she said about President Bush or V.P.Cheney, it would have been laughed off by every single one of her current leftist attackers.
