You all know the story by now. Just out of prison, Jake Blues goes for a ride with his brother, Elwood. As fans of this classic will recall, they return to the orphanage where they were raised and they get their mission from Kathleen Freeman, aka "The Penguin". (NSFW language)
On the way home, they spin by the mall.
OK, actually they spun through the mall. And they actually used a real closed mall for this scene--the Dixie Square Mall in Harvey, Illinois. It's been vacant ever since and demolition actually just began in February of this year.
The bridge scene. And even today, who doesn't hate Illinois Nazis?
Poor Henry Gibson.
They eventually do their thing in the Palace Hotel Ballroom and get enough money to pay off the note on the orphanage.
Then they just have to get downtown Chicago to pay it. In the way: The Chicago Police Department.
No problem--they're on a mission from God.
