Burn Notice boycott is OVER!

OK. After reading this great post on Blackfive, my self-imposed boycott of the show Burn Notice is at an end.

Some of you may recall a post a few months back where I expressed a great deal of disappointment over something that lead actor Jeffery Donovan did off the set. It was enough to make me give up watching what had been one of the very few modern shows that I ever watched. But that's all in the past now as it has been more than atoned for by his recent action--traveling to Iraq with co-star Bruce Campbell to visit our troops serving there.

That's the sort of class that we used to routinely see from our Hollywood celebrities back in the day that Hollywood was patriotic and actually supported America and our troops. (That would be "pre-George Clooney" for those who don't remember those days.)

Here they are shooting with our troops at Combat Outpost Meade on November 13th.Yeah, Jeffrey Donovan needs someone to teach him how to actually hold that Beretta M9. No one uses that old "cup-and-saucer" hold any more. But Bruce Campbell (below) seems to be enjoying that M249 SAW and making good use of it.

Jeffrey Donovan and Bruce Campbell did not have to go to Iraq. They could have done as most of the rest of Hollywood has done and is still doing and just ignored our troops. But they went, and they gave our troops a much-needed boost. So because they did that, Burn Notice is once again back on the TV here. Good job, guys.

And Hey Aaron, how about shooting me Season Three on DVD?

One more actor added to the list of "people I used to like".

Every time I get to actually liking a TV show or an actor, something like this has to happen.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — Miami Beach police say they arrested "Burn Notice" star Jeffrey Donovan on suspicion of drunken driving.

The arrest report says an officer pulled Donovan over on July 12 after noticing that he swerved his car to avoid hitting the police car from behind. When the officer approached Donovan, he reported that the actor's eyes appeared bloodshot and watery.

The actor of the popular USA Network series was arrested after failing a field sobriety test. The arrest report says Donovan refused to take a breathalyzer test.

Is there anyone in Hollywood these days who isn't a scumbag off-screen?

EDITED TO ADD: I just wanted to say that to be fair, Donovan isn't the only celebrity that has disappointed me with their out-of-the-public-eye behavior. My disappointments run the gamut from Lauren Tewes, the actress who played the part of Julie McCoy on The Love Boat way back in the 70's (and who turned out to be a cocaine user) to Jan Michael-Vincent, an actor that I liked until he racked up several drug and alcohol-related arrests, including one where he cracked a car while driving drunk and then sued the paramedics because they allegedly hurt his throat when they intubated him trying to save his stupid life. More recently I have come to be disappointed in people like Richard Miniter, the foreign policy author who was busted for DWI in Virginia back in 2005. Reports were that he was a total tool to the police but none of that was enough to prevent the Washington Times from hiring them as their Vice President of Opinion. Like I care what a drunk thinks?

Bottom line is that people in the public eye need to remember that they are in the public eye, and the rest of us need to remember that just because someone acts the part of a stable, decent person on the screen or in print, that in no way proves that they actually have their head screwed on straight.

Lunchtime. Mmmmmm...Yogurt.....

So for lunch today, I had some tasty yogurt.

I haven't bought this stuff in years, but I was in the grocery store the other day re-stocking the pantry, when I saw this yogurt on sale. Sure was a good price.
But I don't eat yogurt, I told myself.

Then I remembered that Michael Weston on the show "Burn Notice" eats it all the time.

Well hell, if Michael Weston eats yogurt, It must be a good addition to my fitness-oriented diet. I bought some.

Then as I was walking out of the store, it dawned on me that I'd just bought this stuff solely because a character on a TV show liked it.

DOH!

I guess that subtle product placement advertising does work.

Lucky for me, I like yogurt. But I really have to start getting out more.
