Moving forward

I’m better now. Not good but closer. The other dogs are grieving and taking comfort in each other. They’ve always maintained a distance between themselves but since Belle left they’ve become very close and clingy to each other, and to me.

In other news, all day today has been high winds, with gusts as high as 70mph. I don’t recommend this in a trailer but we’re getting through it. In the middle of it all though, two guys showed up in a jeep because the lady at the museum in town told them I was doing tours. So I took a respite from the wind and blowing sand and ducked underground for a bit. And I got paid. Who says there’s no more money to be made in these mines?

We miss you Belle.

  1. Glad to hear that you and the other dogs are healing up. We recently lost one of our little guys and it's tough. We already have adopted another to take his place and we're doing better but not over the grief yet. Hang in there.

  2. I'm getting the same wind. It's roaring like a freight train. My place is sited on the lee side of a ridge and I have a steel roof so it just roars. There is an advantage to keeping a ridge between you and the weather.

I'm sad for you, sad for the dogs, but for the most part, we outlive man's best friend.

  3. It was good the other two were there. They understand death much better than just disappearing and that helps with THEIR grieving. And animals DO grieve.

  4. I've noticed how the other dogs will grieve for a while after one of them is gone before. Yep, they for sure have feelings. My pups at the vets kennel today, I've been busy getting my sailboat ready to splash, leasing a marina slip and just needed a safe place for her. Murph, do please start to look for another rescue or a pup, you'll begin feeling more yourself with another counter surfer.

  5. Hang tough, amigo - loss of a loved one, human or animal, is hard. Glad that mine of yours is starting to pay bills. Back about a month ago I went to Mammoth Cave in KY and took a guided tour, oldest son lives up that way and came along. Found out that back in the 1800's, he folks that owned the cave made money through tourism.

  6. I can't imagine. I have three, and the puppy (he's 1.5 years) is laying at my feet. My wife wants to rehome him, and I know that after this weekend when tax season is over, she'll focus in on the boy. He doesn't deserve this.

I'm so attached to all of them, I can't even imagine. Our big dude is six and the sweetest soul you'd ever meet.

    1. Pets are family.
      Maybe rehome the wife.

    2. Her thing is to burn a bearing and leave for a week. For me to get my head straight, of course. First time was traumatic. Second frustrating. If it happens again, I'm a done tom turkey.

Little dude has been calming down geometrically as he approaches his second birthday, not that she'd notice. I've given it a shot. He's going nowhere, far as I'm concerned. Unless it's someone I know that wants him.

  7. One of the three in my Pack--momma, was pissed at me and depressed when I had to put daddy down last August--they were together for over 13 yrs. Hell we were all hurtin, but she is now coming around back to normal for a 14+ yr old gsd. Glad you got a little company out there for a distraction...we are all here for you if and when you need some support.
