We‘re doing ok. New horizons

The sadness has passed and the other dogs are back to their regular weird normal. Murphy table-surfed a loaf of bread off the table last night and I had a hard time being too mad at him.

And also yesterday, I took an evening walk back on my land, and for the first time both dogs followed me instead of just staying by the trailer. They walked/hopped/limped a mile, and I had to smile at the sight of two wonky dogs following their equally wonky master through the desert.

I love these guys. I really do.

  1. Glad things are 'kinda' normal.

  2. Yeah, they don't want much, and give back more.

Glad to hear things are returning to normal for certain values of normal.

  3. Every day... Sigh. Been there, done that. Good to see the two keeping you moving.

And thanks for keeping us in the loop.

  6. Thank you for the update.

Limping and bumping over our land is better than a mouth full of dirt.

  7. One of the cats from a litter I fostered a while ago, that was The Best Ever, dissappeared from his forever home a couple weeks ago. Two of his siblings never made it out of my house - it was the best litter ever and they are foster fails. I resigned myself to Marble being dead and have been having those talks with his siblings in between tears. Yeah, I know they don't speak English - sue me. Today I found out that Marble pulled himself home yesterday with broken hips and a broken jaw. His adoptive family hired a tracking dog to look for him last weekend and she thinks that maybe that laid down enough of a scent trail that he caught it and dragged himself back along the trail. Surgery for hips and jaw and a feeding tube, but the vet says his prognosis is good. I've been crying intermittently all day. And I'm pretty sure that while Marble's siblings don't understand the details, they are very aware that Something Has Happened. Animals understand way more than we credit them for.

  8. It's good to know that you and the pups are getting on with life. You don't forget the pets who've crossed the rainbow bridge, but you do learn to cope with their absence. I'd not wanted another dog for some time until I encountered the Mountain Cur breed. It took me a couple of years to connect with a breeder with a puppy needing a home. She's proving herself to be an ideal companion dog and friend. So, knowing you, who knows what will end up crossing your pathway and catching your eye.
